IMPORTANT BAGGAGE INFORMATION
IN THE UNITED STATES

Please be aware that beginning January 1, 2003, US Federal law requires that all bags be screened at the airport before being placed on any airplane.

Coast To Coast Travel would like to pass on some helpful hints from the TSA for packing your bags prior to leaving for the airport.

Checked Bags:

bullet

Don't pack food and beverages inside checked bags

bullet

Spread any books out inside a suitcase rather than stacking them

bullet

Pack footwear on top of other items

bullet

Don't cram too many items into a suitcase.  It will be hard for a screener to close it should the need arise to open your bag.

bullet

Avoid packing anything you would be embarrassed for other people to see, as your bag may be opened in a public place.

bullet

Leave bag unlocked so screeners do not have to break into them.

bullet

Put personal items, like underwear and toiletries, in a zip-lock plastic bag so screeners do not have to handle them.

bullet

Don't wrap gifts.  They may have to be opened for inspection.

bullet

If something is missing or damaged, call the TSA customer response center at 866-289-9673.

bullet

VERY IMPORTANT:  Screening equipment for checked baggage WILL damage film.  Be sure to place any film in your carry-on bags.

bullet

Check your handbags and carry-on bags for any pocket knives, box cutters, promotional screwdrivers given to you by a company,  etc. since these items will be taken away from you when you go through the baggage check because you mistakenly have left something on your key ring or in your purse or carry-on by mistake.  You will also be slowed down by having any Metal Design on your shoes or on your belts,  It is important to double check your items you will be carrying on to the aircraft and what you plan on wearing on your trip on the plane.  This can save you time and the inconvenience of having to be double checked by the screening personnel.
