  Anniversaries
  romance

Anniversaries are special. The date of your marriage is an occasion worth celebrating, and going away together is a natural for many couples.
Whether you are excited about just a anniversary weekend getaway, or planning a week or longer anniversary trip, here’s a few ways to make your special day a “celebration vacation” to remember – for almost any budget!

Take a Wedding Anniversary Trip - One of the best ways to celebrate a wedding anniversary is by taking a trip together. A romantic trip at anniversary time give you time to reconnect, reflect, and rekindle the passion that drew you together in the first place.

The bet anniversary trip is a trip without kids and distractions. If you can afford it, splurge – on a great resort, an ocean cruise, a place you’ve always dreamed of visiting.

While not everyone can afford a trip to commemorate each anniversary, by putting aside some money every year you can plan to celebrate the major ones with a trip. I know one couple who deposited $5 in a jar every time they made love, and that covered their annual trip.

The 5th, 10th, 15th, 20th, 25th anniversary all mark major milestones in a marriage that deserve to be honored. While an anniversary trip isn’t the traditional anniversary gift, it can be the best one you give yourselves.

Anniversary Vacation Ideas - Warm Spots:

For those special trips, like your 25th wedding anniversary vacation, a romantic getaway in the sun calls for travel to one of the Big 3:

  • Hawaii. For a unique anniversary travel gift you’ll both remember, the north coast of Kauai has some of the most romantic beaches in Hawaii
  • Cozy Carmel, California is a distance of just 120 miles from San Francisco, and has been one of our favorite spots for a romantic on the California coast.
  • Florida. If you crave fine sand and sunshine, Naples would be one of the top choices of a Florida anniversary vacation on the fine beaches of the Gulf of Mexico.

Special Wedding Anniversary Vacation Ideas:

Every anniversary is special, and an opportunity to adapt traditional wedding anniversary gifts into ideas for travel!

  • 1st Wedding Anniverary: Paper

Taking a wedding anniversary trip is one of the most effective ways to strengthen the bond of marriage with your spouse. Regardless of how long you have been married or how large of a budget you have available. There are wedding anniversary travel ideas that will fit your travel needs.

Another romantic wedding anniversary idea is to recreate a trip from your past. More often than not, you will recreate your honeymoon or take a trip to the place that you met, if it wasn’t where you live now. When people have been married for some time and need a little spark in their relationship, sometimes reliving a special time that you spent together gives a feeling a déjà vous that becomes an enjoyable way to celebrate your time together.

If you have been married for years and worked hard without enjoying the fruits of your labor, celebrating your wedding anniversary and the prosperous life you have built together in the lap of luxury is a must do. When time and money do not factor into your plan for an anniversary trip, one option is to take a Cruise around the world on a luxury cruise line. If staying on a boat for almost a year is not for you than staying at a luxury Resort.

For couples that are thrill-seekers, there is no better way to enrich your bond than taking an active wedding anniversary trip to continue our life-long adventure together. The newest wave in adventure travel is a zip line tour or canopy tour where you can see nature from above. Although you can do this in California or Hawaii. It’s your anniversary, so head someplace really exotic, like Thailand.

  Renewal of Vows
  vows

Renewing wedding vows can be a meaningful, touching, revivifying ceremony for you and your children, family and friends. As a married couple, it is a time to pause and reflect on where you have been and where you are going. It is also a wonderful example to set for your children and grandchildren. Can you image a more beautiful scene than children watching their parents joining hands and hearts as they affirm the magnitude and strength of their enduring love? What greater life/love lesson? I often say at these ceremonies: “True love does not wither or die. It merely ripens.” Afterwards many couples comment as to how surprisingly romantic it all felt!

Wedding vow renewal ceremonies can be as creative and personal as you want them to be. Walk down the aisle to classical music and walk out to “your song” Let the cover of your invitation feature our grandchild’s favorite drawing of Grandma and Pop Pop or even your first wedding portrait. Play your original wedding video at your reception. Buy new wedding bands for the occasion and have them specially engraved. Your ceremony should be less formal than a wedding - more casual and fun. It can completely reflect the two of you.

Significant anniversaries are especially appropriate times for renewing your commitment and love. I have conducted vow renewals for couples married as little as 10 years and as much as 50 years.

Some couples choose to renew their vows after a particularly difficult crisis in their lives, say for example, the overcoming of a serious illness or a period of estrangement. They want to make it new again! Others simply want to reaffirm the tremendous love that has matured and deepened with the passing of years.

Vow renewals are usually conducted by clergy since they are generally more spiritual and not official in nature. However, if you have a warm hearted friend who is a judge or a ship’s capital --- that could work nicely as well. Unlike weddings, no legal paperwork is needed for a vow renewal. The ceremony can be conducted in churches, chapels, temples, banquet facilities, on yachts, out of doors or in the privacy of a couple’s home – with a room full of guests or in an intimate setting with just the couple. Consider reaffirming your vows in some far off, exotic destination! The couples themselves host the celebration because it is so very personal. It is a decision that only you as a couple can make. There are no shot gun vow renewals!

A couple is often better able to express what is in their heart. These words that they express in their renewal of their vows are most beautiful and they will cherish them for the rest of their lives and perhaps pass them on to their children one day.

A couple that is staying together through thick and thin deserves some celebration. If you and your spouse may want to have a “do-over” wedding, considered a vow renewal.

You want to do a Vow Renewal:

  • You want to celebrate your 5-year, 10-year, 25-year, etc. wedding anniversary
  • You only got married legally before, and now want to marry religiously
  • You only got married religiously before, and now you want to marry legally
  • Your first wedding had some element of disaster, and you want a do-over
  • You didn’t have much money for your first wedding, and you want a more elaborate wedding
  • You got married with only a few people present, and you’d like to say wedding vows in front of lots of family and friends
  • You’ve had some rocky time in our relationship, and would now like to reaffirm your commitment to one another
  • You think it would be romantic

There are far less rules and dos and don’ts about vow renewal than almost any other kind of ritual It can be as simple as the two of you alone in a beautiful spot reciting vows you have written, or a fancy affair with hundreds of guests.

Vow renewals are generally cheaper than first weddings, and with fewer rules on what “should” be done, you can really concentrate on the elements that are important to you.

Most vow renewals tend to be intimate celebrations, with only close family and friends present, and a lunch afterwards at a nice restaurant. Other who didn’t have much money for their first wedding may have a very lavish ceremony and party afterwards.

Vow renewal is not a legally binding, so you can get anyone to officiate at this ceremony for you. You are recalling that special day by renewing your marriage vows and saying “I do” again with this memorable ceremony.

Celebrating traditions is most important today than ever before. It’s a way to stay grounded in tradition as family; friends and community recognize and help celebrate the strength of a marriage.

  Just Because...
  spagirl

Just Because is a new celebration becoming increasingly popular it is “Celebrating Celebration”.

It is a bonus trend because we saw the emergence of a ‘celebration tourism’ trend that we thought would gather steam and was worth mentioning.
The special occasions like the anniversaries, weddings, retirement parties, bachelorette, graduation, ‘girlfriend’ parties, birthdays, all kinds of personal celebrations.

There was a woman who recently rented out an entire wing of the ocean front Montage in Laguna Beach Caliifornia and invited 50 of her very special friends and family for a weekend of celebration – “Just Because.” No birthday, no anniversary, no wedding, and no divorce – they weren’t celebrating anything except Life.

People have continued to choose “experiences” over “things” making the spa experience that offers both comfort and health benefits a popular choice.
After you reread the “Celebrating Celebration” trend, I will share with you a type of celebration, I ran across recently that I had never heard of a year ago – but seems to be on the increase!

Someone was at the beautiful Montage in Laguna Beach California a few weeks ago. During breakfast with some of their key executives (all are super kind and hospitable). Someone learned about a new celebration they say is becoming increasingly popular. It is called the “Just Because.”

Reasons to have a "Just Because" Celebration:

  • Luxury Spa Villa Retreat is an example of people getting together “Just Because.” The emerging Spa travel trend with people increasingly hitting stay spas for special occasions. After a severe downturn in hotels’ corporate/meetings business (which, because of virtual conferencing, will continue to decline), the industry is aggressively incentivizing group celebration travel to revitalize lost business. This concept was born at the day spa (with its long tradition (with its long tradition of bachelorette, graduation, and “girlfriend” parties), and its rapid migration into the travel arena in 2010 is one great reason for the industry to celebrate.
  • “Relationship Wellness”. It is when more and more families (often multigenerational) are getting away together to celebrate and create memories by Spa-going is less associated with luxury and pampering and more with celebrating and affirming one’s life’s well-being.
  • Staycation. This is not just a fad because local local spa packages have proved them wrong, and staycation is not only here to stay, but it’s on the rise. With less hassle and expense, people are embracing the idea of vacationing nearer home and checking into a local/nearby resort to rejuvenate on the quick. And for the breed of staycations (where decompressing is key), spa-going will always be a main attraction.
  • A Decadent Afternoon Tea Party Shoot | Just Because ‘Afternoon Tea’ Shoot with the yummiest Cup Cakery in which they would do a shoot with all the delicate props The Photographer loves to see people in love and have a chance to capture the wonderful moments on their big day. The photographer wants to capture the day in the most perfect way and have all their most precious moments for them on film whether it be for Weddings…. Portraits…. or Memories.

Talk to your children, and see if they are excited or scared of the activities first. A family adventure is no time to traumatize your child by pushing a scary activity.

Family Friendly Adventure travel ideas:

  • Farm Stay. A wonderful adventure travel vacation for the whole family is a farm stay where visitors get to experience life on a farm hands-on. There are various levels of farms stays and of visitor’s duties. Children love to feed the animals and parents love the farm-fresh homemade meas. There are farm stays throughout the world.
  • Dude Ranch. Want to play cowboy, for real? Dude ranches appeal to the child in all of us. There are many dude ranches that has programs catering to children (Just be sure to check ahead, as some programs do not). Best Affordable U.S. Destinations

Just Because money is tight these days doesn’t mean you have to settle for a stay-cation. The United States is home to plenty of vacation spots that offer the escape you need – complete with one-of-a-kind hotels, mouth-watering restaurants and plenty of things to do – and prices that won’t make you cringe. Following are the best values America has to offer:

  • Savannah. It offers low prices which are just one of the perks of planning a trip to this Southern city, not to mention the picturesque architecture and a large number of restaurants dishing out hearty portions of Southern fare. Experts say that this southern gem has a split personality – mixing traditional southern culture with a hint of contemporary flair – which can be experienced by simply strolling along the city streets. With budget-friendly room rates, recent visitors agree there’s no excuse not to stay a few extra nights.
  • Yellowstone. Forget hotel rates and bring your own accommodations. Yellowstone is home to breathtaking natural attractions that many agree are enjoyed by visitors of all ages. With miles of hiking and skiing paths, erupting hot springs and belching mud pools, not to mention the numerous roaming animals, experts and fellow adventure-seekers agree that the entrance fee is a small price to pay for a walk on the wild side in America’s oldest national park.

  • Puerto Rico. Puerto Rico offers visitors the chance to indulge in all of the perks of a Caribbean getaway for a fraction of the price without having to worry about international travel. Home to numerous all-inclusive resorts, beautiful sandy beaches and plenty of seafood to satisfy your appetite, not to mention a rich culture infused with traditional Latin rhythms, this American commonwealth is an excellent destination for bargain-hunters looking to lie in the lap of luxury. And with nonstop flights from many major U.S. Airports, the Caribbean has never been so accessible.
  • Baltimore. Baltimore is speckled with affordable lodging and dining options, not to mention the numerous attractions – from museums to aquariums – that provide entertainment to visitors of all ages. But because of its poor reputation in terms of safety, most travelers limit themselves to neighborhoods within the immediate vicinity of the Inner Harbor. Because this area sees the largest influx of tourist, hotel and restaurant prices here tend to be high. Bargain hunters can easily find low rates, but they can also prepare themselves for a somewhat lengthy commute to major attractions.
  • New Orleans. Its been several years since Hurricane Karina wreaked havoc on this Louisiana city, but now New Orleans is back and better than ever, offering visitors a culturally rich and sometimes scandalous getaway with prices that are much tamer than the city’s reputation. Budget hotels are housed in historic buildings, and restaurants serve spicy portions of Canjun and Creole cuisine for a tiny price. However, traveler’s planners to visit in March will be scrambling for decent hotel rooms and sharing the city with rowdy Mardi Gras attendants.
  • Myrtle Beach Home to numerous golf courses, beaches and family-friendly attractions, Myrtle Beach’s budget-friendly hotels and restaurants make a trip to this city on the shore even more enjoyable. Recent travelers have taken advantage of the many stay-and-golf deals offered by a good number of Myrtle Beach hotels, while those looking for sand and sun can spend their days sprawled out along the city’s public beaches.
  • Yosemite. With plenty of natural attractions and low-price camping areas, Yosemite offers refuge for those looking to escape their hectic urban lives. Like Yellowstone, Yosemite offers access to extensive hiking trails and breathtaking scenery for a small entrance fee, and travelers can avoid high hotel prices by simply packing a tent. If the city calls, San Francisco is just a few hours away by car.
  • South Padre Island. This sandy strip features numerous budget-friendly options within walking distance from the beach, while other attractions – including a water park and wildlife excursions – offer fun for the whole family. But because SPI’s primary airport is small and located rather far from the island, getting there can be a hassle, not to mention that those traveling in March will have to share this otherwise relaxing beach destination with rowdy Spring Breakers.
  • Nashville. Known for offering some of the lowest hotel prices in the South – not to mention some of the most satisfying barbecue in the country –Nashville allows bargain hunters a laidback getaway filled with down-home fun. However, you may find that it’s easier to splurge on a rental car rather than trying to navigate the city on foot or by public transportation.
  • Philadelphia. Historic monuments, museums and nightlife can keep visitors busy for days in this vibrant city. Easily accessible by plane, train or car, getting to Philadelphia is not a problem. And with plenty of budget-friendly accommodations and an abundance of bargain eateries, not to mention a convenient public transportation system, Philly makes for a unique and affordable getaway. However, like in any big city, finding a place to stay that won’t break the bank takes patience and perseverance, and most of the major attractions charge entrance fees.
  • Las Vegas. America’s playground is littered with inexpensive hotels and all-you-can-eat-buffets, making this city an affordable place to stay. Add to that a number pools and rows of quarter slots and you’ve got yourself a great value destination. But unless you’re extremely disciplined, you may find yourself shelling out more than you expected. A dispute with Lady Luck by the blackjack table may leave your bank account suffering.
  • Daytona. Travelers looking to escape the winter chills and the high prices of other Florida cities should speed over Daytona, where the weather is just as warm and the beach is just as enjoyable. But travelers will find that the most affordable room rates can be found mainly at chain hotels, and rooms can be hard to come by during major sporting events like the Daytona 500 auto race. And unless you’re a diehard car aficionado, you’ll find that entertainment in this auto-centric city is rather limited.
  • San Antonio. Easily accessible by air and ground transportation, San Antonio welcomes approximately three million visitors per year, according to Longly Planet. Home to the legendary Alamo, River Walk and San Antonio Missions National Historic Park, not to mention a host of lively honky-tonks and rock clubs, this city is constantly buzzing with things to do. While hotels and restaurants in the heart of the city will charge a pretty penny for their convenient location, travelers on a budget shouldn’t have any problems saving on lodging and dining in surrounding neighborhoods like King William and Alamo Heights.
  • Minneapolis. Home to numerous affordable chain hotels and independent bed and breakfasts, Minneapolis offers plenty top-notch museums and sculpture gardens, a thriving theater scene and a large number of must-try restaurants. But unless you’re willing to brave the sub-zero temperatures of Minnesota winters, you’ll find your travel dates are rather limited, not to mention that summer rates rise to accommodate visitors to the city’s annual Aquatennial festival.
  • Austin. Sitting at the heart of the Lone Star State, Austin’s fun-filled atmosphere, outdoor attractions and notorious nightlife draw crowds from all over the country. Not to mention a wide variety of lodging and dining options make the quirky “Live Music Capital of the World” a great year-round budget-friendly vacation spot. Because this is a university town, Austin’s prices cater to student budgets. Bargain-hunters will not have to lose out on an authentic Austin experience, since price tags are low at the majority of hotels and restaurants, most of which are said to be just as “weird” as the city itself.
  • Washington D.C. Although hotel prices are not always budget-friendly, travel writers say that those who are patient can generally find a room to suit both your taste and budget. And with a wide variety of free museums and monuments, visitors can spend a couple of guilt-free days perusing the dozens of Smithsonian museums along the National Mall, or head into the lion’s den at the National Zoo. At the end of the day, grab a meal at one of D.C.’s many budget friendly restaurants before a night on the town.
  • Seattle. There are plenty of fund (and affordable) ways to stay dry in rainy Seattle. Caffeinae at the world’s first Starbucks, peruse the Pike Place Market or stretch your legs on the trails in the Olympic Mountains. If you don’t mind the cold, you can find some great deals on Emerald City hotels during the fall and winter.
  • Chicago. Just because this city boasts a sense of newly found glamour doesn’t mean Chicago doesn’t’ cater to the bargain-hunter. Windy City is home to plenty of free attractions like Millennium Park, the Lincoln Park Zoo and Navy Pier. And don’t worry about spending a fortune on food: Sink your teeth into a slice of Chicago’s renowned deep dish pizza or a loaded hot dog (both are very affordable)_
  • New York City. Despite its high-end reputation, it is possible to experience the Big Apple on a Budget. Hotels outside the Midtown offer bargain rate, the city’s extensive subway system makes getting around easy and cost-efficient and you can avoid over-spending by passing the time in Central with a jumbo slice of pizza. But unless you plan on eating all your meals at street stalls, dining out is going to cost you, not to mention that some noteworthy New York experiences, like attending a Broadway show, can be pricey. If you’re looking for an affordable big-city experience, head to Washington D.C. or Philadelphia instead.

"Certainly, travel is more than seeing of sights; it is a change that goes on, deep and permanent, in the idea of living.”

My father was a passionate nature lover and instilled that in us with a vengeance. He had a wonderful gift to create a bubbling excitement about something. He was an excellent storyteller and we drank in stories about hunting, fishing, travelling from baby-bottle time. We love the thrill of travelling. We love the gifts of Nature, her energy and beauty all around us, free…….

We are passionate about the bush, about long walks on the beach, about big sky country. Give us little forest walks, game drives, birding trips, snorkeling trips, fishing excursions. We are happiest then. We are fulfilled and whole. But life gets in the way. Bread must be earned and butter must be provided.

This coming weekend I am off for a trip of a lifetime. I am breathless with excitement. And very lucky that we can afford to go.

It got me thinking about travel destinations and so let me introduce the ten natural travel wonders of the world. I found this very interesting and fun to take note of.

Just Because I Can | 10 Natural Travel Wonders of the World

  • Serengti Migration. The Serengeti is 60,000 square kilometer savanna which lies over Tanzania and Kenya. The biannual migration that occurs there is considered one of the most amazing sights in Africa attracting many tourists across the globe. Several parks and reserves are found in the region. Its name is derived from the Masai language and means “Endless Plains”. The extraordinary annual Great Migration of wildebeest and other grazing herbivores the Serengeti-Mara ecosystem is one of the greatest spectacles in the natural world.
  • Gatapagos Islands. These islands are an archipelago of volcanic islands distributed around the equator, 965 kilometers (about 600 miles) west of the continent Ecuador in the Pacific Ocean. They are famed for their vast number of endemic speciies and he studies by Charles Darwin that contributed to the inception of Darwin’s theory of evolution by natural selection.
  • Grand Canyon. The Grand Canyon is very colourful, steep-sided gorge, carved by the Colorado River in the U.S. state of Arizona. It is largely contained within the Grand Canyon National Park. The canyon created by the Colorado River over about 6 million years 446 km long, ranges in width from 6 to 24 kilometers, and attains a depth of more than 1.6 km. Nearly 2 billion years of the Earth’s history have been exposed as the Colorado River and its tributaries cut their channels through layer after layer of rock while the Colorado Plateau was uplifted. During prehistory, the area was inhabited by Native Americans who built settlements within the canyon and its many caves.
  • Iguazu Falls. Iguazu Falls are spectacular waterfalls of the Iguazu River located on the border of the Brazilian state of Parana and the Argentine province of Misiones. They divide the river into the upper and lower Iguazu.
  • Amazon Rainforest. The Amazon Rainforest is a moist broadleaf forest in the Amazon Basin of South America. The area, also known a Amazonia or the Amazon Basin encompasses seven million square kilometers, though the forest itself occupies itself occupies some 5.5 million square kilometers, located within nine nations: Brazil (with 60 percent of the rainforest). Columbia, Peru, Venezuela, Ecuador, Bolivia, Guyana, Suriname, and French Guiana. The Amazon represents over half of the planet’s remaining rainforests and comprises the largest and most species-rich tract of tract of tropical rainforest in the world.
  • Ngorogoro Crater. The Ngorongoro Crater is the world’s largest unbroken volcanic caldera. The Crater, which formed as the giant volcano exploded and collapsed on itself around 2 million years ago, is 610m deep and the floor is 260 km. The steep sides of the crater mean that it has become a natural enclosure for a very wide variety of wildlife.
  • The Great Barrier Reef. This Reef in Australia is the world’s largest coral reef system, composed of roughly 3,000 individual reefs and 900 islands stretching for 2,600 kilometers. The reef is located in the Coral Sea, off the coast of Queensland in northeast Australia. The Great Barrier Reef can be seen from outer space and is the world’s biggest single structure made by living organisms. This reef structure is composed of and built by billions of tiny organisms, known as coral polyps. The Great Barrier Reef supports a diversity of life, including many vulnerable, endangered species.
  • Victoria Falls. It is with absolute pleasure that I can post my very own pics here. We traveled to Vic falls last May and had such a great time! We loved the “dry” runs, but BOY did we indulge in the “wet” runs. We all behaved like giggling kids and screamed with delight and upliftment when the roaring cold super shower cleansed us. We could not get enough! Africa’s Victoria Falls or Mosi-oa Tunya (the Smoke that Thunders) are, by some measures, the largest waterfall in the world. The unusual form of Victoria Falls enables virtually the whole width of the falls to be viewed face-on, at the same level as the top, from as close as 60 m, because the whole Zambezi River drops into a deep, narrow slot-like chasm connected to a long series of gorges.
  • Bora Bora. Bora Bora is in the Leeward group of the Soceity Islands of the French Polynesia, an overseas territory of France in the Pacific Ocean. The island is surrounded by a lagoon and a barrier reef. In the center of the island are the remnants of an extinct volcano rising to two peaks, Mount Pahia and Mount Otemanu, the highest point. The original name of the island in the Tahitian language might be better rendered as Pora Pora, meaning “First Born”.
  • Cappadocia. Volcanic rock is dramatically sculpted by wind and weather. The Cappadocia in Turkey consists of a region of exceptional natural wonders characterized by fairy chimneys and a unique historical and cultural heritage. The region is largely underlain by sedimentary rocks formed in lakes and streams, and ignimbrite deposits erupted from ancient volcanoes approximately 9 to 3 million years ago. The rocks of Cappodocia near Goreme eroded into hundreds of spectacular pillars and minaret-like forms. The volcanic deposits are soft rocks that the people of the villages at the heart of Cappadocia Region carved out to form houses, churches and monasteries I wonder WHO decides on these wonderful destinations. I found this whole exercise very stimulating and time flew by while I visited websites and photos. I loved every minute of it. Another reason why I am still here. FUN!
